When you visit the offices of Dr. Kenyon, you'll discover that he utilizes a wide range of dental technologies to make your visit more confortable, your dental procedures quicker, safer and more convenient, and your smile brighter than ever.
Digital X-Ray Technology
Medical grade phosphor imaging plates are used instead of film. These are digitally scanned by laser and sent to any of the monitors in our office for evaluation. Even more amazing is that this technology allows the reduction of the already low levels of X-ray by more than half!
Sterilization Systems
We are committed to providing you with a safe environment and as part our commitment to patient education, we thought that some information about our sterilization procedures may be of interest to you. Sterilization is a high priority in our office, and we exceed the highest standards.
Autoclave
Each one of our instruments and handpieces undergo thorough sterilization, as well as a process called "autoclaving". We use the following steps to achieve the most thorough and complete sterilization.
1) Each instrument is thoroughly scrubbed with antibacterial soap and water in order to remove any debris.
2) The instrument is placed in an ultrasonic cleaner which vibrates any remaining debris.
3) Autoclaved instruments and handpieces undergo 30 pounds per square inch of pressure for 20 minutes at 275 degrees Fahrenheit.
For complete assurance of our sterilization procedures, our steam sterilizers are checked weekly. Our instruments are run with a sealed sample of bacterial spores sent to us by an outside testing service. After the cycle has been run, the samples are sent for evaluation for complete sterility. Weekly records are kept on file for review.
Disposables
Using disposables whenever possible also helps us provide you with the highest quality of care. All syringe needles, unit dose anesthetics and suction tips are disposed of immediately after each individual patient procedure.
During your next visit, please take note of our certificates regarding "Disposal of Contaminates" and "OSHA Sterilization Safety Procedures". The OSHA Operations Guide is the standard by which we facilitate sterilization processes. As always, we are committed to provide you with the highest quality of care, and conforming to the highest standards of sterilization is just part of our commitment to serving you.
If you have any questions or would like a tour of our sterilization facility, please don't hesitate to call us.
Periodontal Health Advances
As you know, we are committed to your oral health and believe that preventive dentistry and patient education are the best ways to fulfill this commitment. An important element of your overall oral health is your periodontal health. Poor periodontal health can cause gum disease, resulting in serious complications including bone and tooth loss. Today's technologies have made it easier for Dentists and Patients to work together to prevent gum disease or to catch it at an early stage before extensive therapy is required or complications occur.
Some of the special tools Dr. Kenyon uses to evaluate your periodontal health and provide patient education are the Intraoral Camera, Interprobe and CAESY system.
Intraoral Camera
The intraoral camera allows us to painlessly and easily photograph the inside of the patient's mouth. The photographic image can then be reproduced and enlarged on a color monitor for the patient and dentist to view together. Existing or potential problems can be shown more clearly to the patient. The Intraoral Camera allows Dr. Kenyon to explain problems and treatments more easily.
Interprobe
The Interprobe device is a computer that accurately measures the level of support for the teeth. If periodontal disease is present, and a loss of support is documented with the graphic printout, Dr. Kenyon can more accurately recommend a course of treatment.
CAESY
This is an abbreviation for Clinically Advanced Education System. It is an interactive DVD that has over one hundred topics of dental interest. Everything from "How to floss" to "What is an implant" is presented in color on a TV monitor. This way patients can be easily educated in an entertaining noninvasive manner.
CEREC (Chairside Economical Restorations of Ceramic)
This is one of the most exciting advances in dentistry. We employ the use of a CAD/CAM milling machine that fabricates most crowns in one visit! This means:
• No temporary crown
• No impression
• No second vist necessitating a second injection of local anesthetic.
